I’m excited to share my career journey with you. Though it hasn’t been a walk in the park, glad I persevered.
On my journey, I dubbed in quite many spaces; sales to marketing, digital marketing to designing, and copywriting to content marketing before knowing my genuine passion, love, devotion, and dedication fall in brand building and development for start-ups and small and medium entities
It took me nearly 4 years to find and figure out my footing in building and developing individuals, start-ups, and SME brands.
I went through trials, tribulations, reading, writing, and sleepless nights of honing and figuring out skills to improve my craft.
How to use and showcase my skills to the world, stay up-to-date with the latest knowledge in the field, and show results isn’t a simple game, but what I argue you is it’s worth it if you’ve courage.
Throughout my journey, I’ve had the privilege of meeting some people. It began a decade ago when I took the initiative of revising and updating the web copy of one of my past employers. It wasn’t an easy endeavor, but it ended up invaluable.
Then, I wasn’t aware the task would become a cornerstone of my career and help me monetize my skills.
Had I known at the time how much it could help me further down the line, I wouldn’t hesitate before starting this journey which I launched.
Connecting with unknown people on LinkedIn and carrying out pro Bono tasks for their brands has presented much more than just money.
At the start, I was unfamiliar with my niche and other stuff. However, what I knew was how to network and find associations within the marketing industry.
My focus was to attract new relationships and opportunities through sharing valuable insights. I did this and ended up with very few opportunities and ghosting.
Then, sales insights seemed like a starting point because of my sales background. Little did I knew my decision would change in due course in ways I never imagined.
At first, I struggled to present my insights clearly and organized. But, through disciplined efforts, consistency, learning, and self-assessment, I up-skilled overtime and applied my sales knowledge to the like-minded target.
Keeping at it, I discovered my sales expertise wasn’t at the top of the ladder by any means compared to other prominent sales leaders in the country and outside the world.
That’s when I revisited my old skills. I began without focusing on money. I discovered and noticed I had a knack for identifying brand areas of improvement in various capacities.
By continuing to practice without expectation of financial gain, I solidified the basics that would serve as a foundation for my later success.
With I-can-do it commitment, I began my journey by experimenting with various ideas and techniques that ultimately enabled me to create my unique selling value, which is building the brands of tomorrow together.
With a dream and desire of working for prominent brands in the country for a career change, I applied for many opportunities and sent out cold e-mails to many leaders, which resulted in countless interviews, rejections, frustrations, positive feedback, and setbacks
With setbacks, I kept my spirits up and pushed forward despite, feeling like giving up. Dropped an element of fear within myself.
Rather than give up, I kept moving, fought relentlessly, worked hard, read intensively about my brand space, and thought of taking my brand to the next level–the global stage.
That’s launching my website. I had a goal one day of becoming a global specialist with a multinational global brand, but then such an opportunity couldn’t surface.
Launching my website didn’t come at ease because of the resources. It took nearly 3-4 months to pay for the services of the designer and developer plus the hosting charges. Being a family man, it wasn’t the only thing to look at, but I’m glad it’s an accomplishment now.
Venturing into such space, my goal was to position my brand for more visibility purposes, but another idea cropped up–that’s monetizing my attained skills beyond merely offering free insights and expertise on LinkedIn and medium.com where I write about brand and communication insights and nuggets.
That’s when I created my services and products in alignment with my passion, skills, and expertise. It followed up by creating this copy you’re reading now, which was changed many times to suit what I want.
With perseverance, I’m now a creative brand strategist and communicator with an extensive portfolio of activities and global clientele to show for it.
It may be the maid of the journey, but full of achievements and accomplishments I’m proud of, like working with Azzureo, France, Promasidor, Bero and Bethe, Fanergy Africa Ltd., and more.
Even though I’m now a creative brand strategist and communicator, I love to be identified by my value rather than the title. It’s unbelievable something as simple as levelling up my brand has a tremendous impact on my life and family.
My reputation is the core of my identity, and it informs my relationships with prospects and customers.
